Quartz Engineered Stone

What is Quartz Engineered Stone?

Quartz is one of nature’s hardest minerals. Caesarstone, our preferred Quartz surface, is composed of up to 93% quartz, and are therefore designed to last. The Quartz is combined with numerous polymers and dashes of pigments in a unique Caesarstone-patented process, and the result is a range of durable and beautiful quartz surfaces in a wide variety of colours and finishes.

Caesarstone Quartz surfaces are highly resistant to just about everything you can throw at them, refusing to crack, chip or stain. They are also more heat resistant than granite, marble and limestone – with a capacity to resist temperatures as high as 150 ̊ C. We suggest that hot pots and pans never be directly placed on the surface. We also recommend a hot pad or trivet be placed on the surface under cooking units such as electric frying pans, crock pots, or roaster ovens.

Caesarstone is available in 20mm thickness and some colours are also available in 30mm. Caesarstone can be mitred to form thicker profiles.

Maintaining their glorious looks for years to come is easy– a splash of mild detergent is all that’s required. For more stubborn stains Caesarstone’s own Cream Cleaner can be used. Caesarstone surfaces carry a 10 year limited warranty for residential applications.

What is Granite?

Polished granite is a popular choice for kitchen bench tops due to its high durability and aesthetic qualities.

Granite is a common and widely occurring type of intrusive, felsic, igneous rock. Granite usually has a medium- to coarse-grained texture. Granite is nearly always massive and lacking internal structures, hard and tough, and therefore it has gained widespread use as a construction stone.

A granite slab will have the same general characteristics (such as colour) depending on where it has been mined. However each slab will vary from the next to a greater degree than the engineered stones. It is therefore recommended that the slab is inspected prior to being cut for your bench top.

Granite is available in 30mm thickness and some colours are also available in 20mm. Granite can be mitred to form thicker profiles although this may not be possible in some colours. As Granite is a natural product small hair line cracks can be present in the stone and are not considered defects. Granite surfaces carry a 10 year limited warranty for residential applications.

Corian® is a unique solid surface material with a rich, natural translucence that is inviting to touch.

Corian® offers design versatility, function and durability far beyond the scope of conventional materials. Since its introduction in 1967, it has proven itself to be a remarkably durable, versatile material that’s easy to live with in both residential and commercial environments.

Corian® solid surface is easy to clean and is for food contact. Because Corian® is nonporous; stains do not penetrate the surface. With proper cleaning, Corian® also resists the growth of mould, mildew and bacteria. Corian® is used in laboratories worldwide, so is more than adequate for your home; it’s also the choice of a global fast food giant. Corian surfaces carry a 10 year limited warranty for residential applications.

Is Acrylic Heat Resistant?

We do not recommend placing a hot pot directly on Corian® surfaces. Although Corian® solid surface remains stable and undamaged in temperatures up to 212ºF (100ºC), high heat or flame will damage your surface. In most cases, this damage can be repaired. To protect your Corian® surfaces from heat damage, always use a hot pad or a trivet with rubber feet when using hot pots, or heat-generating appliances, like electric skillets or electric cooking pots.

Formica 180fx offers inspiration on a grand scale. Offering true-to-scale stone and granite patterns, this sophisticated laminate replicates the beauty and magnitude of natural stone.  Its striking colour variations and intricate veining deliver a unique and luxurious look that’s perfect for benchtops, worktops, vanities and laundries.  Formica is our brand of choice and covered by a 5 year limited warranty for residential applications.

I don’t like the Brown line on the edge of laminate tops, what can you do?

The seam on laminate benchtop edges you are referring to is created by a traditional “self-edge” or square edge fabrication, where the core edge of the top surface is exposed. You can avoid this line by post-forming the benchtop to give a curved edge, or by using Formica ColourCore, which is a through-colour product that does not show any line. Formica 180fx also has matching acrylic edge tape available which results in no black line.

Can Stainless Steel Scratch?
